Welcome to Platypus
At Platypus, we offer a range of services, workshops and training designed to build understanding, confidence and meaningful support around neurodiversity. Everything we do is shaped through the powerful lens of lived experience, helping individuals, families and professionals see autism and neurodivergence from new perspectives.
Our work includes interactive workshops, professional training, one-to-one support for individuals and families, parenting assessments, consultancy and tailored advice. Since being founded in 2015 by Corrina Wood, Platypus has aimed to challenge traditional thinking about autism while promoting greater empathy, awareness and practical understanding.
Our Perspective on Autism
Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition that enables an individual to process, connect and experience the world differently. (Platypus, 2018)
About Corrina Wood
Corrina brings more than 20 years of experience supporting families, children and young people. As a former Family Services Manager, she developed and led services while also holding roles as Child Protection Officer and Safeguarding Lead. She has supervised student social workers, contributed to early-help pilot programmes, and worked closely with Local Authorities to support preventative services.
A qualified tutor with over a decade of experience delivering workshops and courses, Corrina is also a licensed facilitator for the Barnardo’s Cygnet Programme — an evidence-based programme supporting parents of autistic children. Her Master’s degree in Autism focused on creating tools to increase awareness within wider families, and her first book, Paddy the Platypus Likes Pants, explores sensory sensitivity through storytelling.
As a parent of four autistic children with co-occurring conditions, including dyspraxia, dyslexia, demand avoidance, processing differences and selective mutism, Corrina blends professional expertise with lived experience. This unique combination shapes Platypus training into sessions that are thought-provoking, practical and engaging. Platypus has supported a wide range of audiences, including parents, professionals and businesses.
