Platypus can provide one to one support to families, children, young people and individuals. Previous support has included parenting, understanding and managing behaviour, prioritising, relationships and improving communication.

Post-diagnosis Support

For Parents

Parents tell us that after diagnosis they can sometimes feel isolated and not really knowing which way to turn. Receiving a diagnosis can feel like a double-edged sword, you have been fighting for this for a long time 🙂 but actually, what does this mean now? or this means it’s forever 🙁 There are often long waiting lists for the generic courses such as Cygnet – but you need help now.

We offer a short 4 week course, tailored to your specific situation, delivered on a one to one basis to support you through this experience. Sessions include:

  • What does it mean for us as a family?
  • Understanding & Managing Behaviour
  • Family Relationships
  • Topic of your choice

For Children & Young People

We are often asked whether there is a programme for children post-diagnosis to help them make sense of themselves and the world around them. We are now able to offer a series of four sessions that works with children and young people to explore their diagnosis and understand how this may impact on how they feel and behave. We are able to deliver this in the home if this enables the child or young person to feel more comfortable.

Parenting Support

Platypus can offer one to one parenting support which is led by your needs as a family. This is a bespoke service, that involves an assessment, support plan, coaching and signposting.

Individuals

We are able to provide support to individuals who have autism or ADHD. This will be led by the needs of the individual and the support plan developed in partnership with them. Support given in the past has included self awareness, prioritising things in their lives, issues at work, accessing services and relationships.
